Mohorič Looks to Defend Title at CRO Race 2023
Team Bahrain Victorious is gearing up to participate in the eighth edition of the ‘Cro Race’, with reigning champion Matej Mohorič set to defend his title. Mohorič has been on a winning streak, taking victories in his last four multi-day races. Lead DS Roman Kreuziger comments on the team’s approach for the race, stating, “We will have to race smart and not expend too much energy in the first few days.”
The race will span six days and feature a combination of hilly and flat stages. Kreuziger highlights the team’s strategy, saying, “We picked these 7 guys because they are still motivated; that can make a big difference at this phase of the year.” He also mentions the importance of having strong riders like Fran Miholjević, Nicoló Burrati, and Matevž Govekar, who can support Mohorič and potentially seize opportunities in the race.
While stages two and six are expected to end in bunch sprints, Kreuziger emphasizes that anything could happen in the other stages depending on the bunch’s aggressiveness. Bahrain will have sprinters such as Burrati and Govekar who can contend with the fast-paced finishes.
The ‘Queen stage’ on Friday is set to be the decisive day for the general classification, with a challenging route that includes significant climbs. Rainer Kepplinger will play a key role as Mohorič’s climber and will be relied upon during the tougher stages.
With Bahrain’s track record in the race, having won four of the last five editions, the team is focused on securing stage victories and achieving a podium finish in the general classification. The Cro Race 2023 will begin on Tuesday in Primošten and conclude on Sunday in Zagreb.
