Florian Vermeersch Finishes Strong in Ronde van Vlaanderen, Places 12th

Lotto Dstny rider Florian Vermeersch has demonstrated a strong performance, finishing in 12th place at the end of the Ronde van Vlaanderen. The Belgian cyclist showcased his determination and anticipation throughout the race.

Vermeersch initially bridged to an interesting group of riders, which later joined the early breakaway on Berg Ten Houte. Despite a challenging moment on the Kruisberg, Vermeersch managed to return to the leading group, staying in the wheel of Van der Poel and Pogacar.

However, on the final ascent of the Kwaremont, Vermeersch was unable to maintain the pace and had to let go. Despite this, the 24-year-old pushed on and persevered, ultimately finishing in 12th place in Oudenaarde.

Reflecting on the race, Vermeersch said, “I think I never went that deep in a race. I completely emptied the tank so I have to be happy with this place just outside the top ten.” He also expressed his satisfaction with his race tactics, stating, “I realised the danger of the strong group riding away so I made the jump together with Pedersen. Eventually, it turned out to be the right move.”

Vermeersch acknowledged the difficulty he faced on the Kruisberg but was fortunate enough to rejoin the wheels of Van der Poel and Pogacar. He described the final ascent of the Kwaremont as a “solo sufferfest,” admitting that he had nothing left by the end.

Looking ahead, Vermeersch expressed confidence, saying, “I am really happy to leave the bad luck behind me and in this form, I’ll go to Paris-Roubaix with confidence.”

Vermeersch’s impressive performance in the Ronde van Vlaanderen is a testament to his determination and skill on the bike. Despite the challenges faced throughout the race, he managed to showcase his abilities and secure a strong finish.
