Milan Menten Sprints to First Lotto Dstny Victory at GP Samyn

Milan Menten secured his first victory with Lotto Dstny at the GP Samyn, after a strong team effort by the Belgian outfit. In a tough race around Dour, Menten emerged as the fastest in a reduced bunch sprint for the win. The breakaway, which included Menten’s teammate Victor Campenaerts, was caught just four kilometers from the finish, setting the stage for Menten’s victory on the uphill finish. Menten expressed his disbelief and joy at securing the win for Lotto Dstny, stating, “This is unbelievable, it’s a dream come true to win for Lotto Dstny so fast.”

The race exploded at the Le Samyn, the opener of the Walloon Classics, with Lotto Dstny playing a key role in making it a hard race. A breakaway of six riders, including Menten’s teammate Jarne Van de Paar and Victor Campenaerts, went clear after a tactical battle on the cobbles and windy flats. While Van de Paar was eventually dropped in the final ten kilometers, the rest of the breakaway was caught by the reduced bunch. It was in this situation that Menten capitalized on his team’s strong performance and sprinted to victory.

Menten credited his team for the win, stating, “I could save my forces and when the front group was caught, I took my chance. It split in the final two kilometers, I had to give it my all but remained calm and waited for the right moment to launch.” He also expressed his satisfaction with the team’s progress and potential for the future, saying, “It is clear that the changes of the past winter, for example in the performance team, are paying off. But we are a team that’s still growing and I am convinced that we can still show some beautiful things.”

Overall, Menten’s victory at GP Samyn marks a significant achievement for both himself and Lotto Dstny, highlighting their collective strength and potential for future success.
