Mikel Landa Excels with Second Overall Placement at Volta a Catalunya
In a noteworthy performance, Mikel Landa clinched the second position overall at the Volta a Catalunya, marking a significant achievement for the Basque rider in one of cycling’s most challenging races.
Landa’s success at the event was highlighted by a statement from the team, emphasizing their satisfaction with placing a rider in the top three for the second consecutive season.
Describing his experience at the race, Landa reflected on his performance, stating, “I am very happy with this performance. I had little idea what to expect coming into the race, but I felt good from the first day and I am delighted that I could show that on the tough climbs and do a good general classification.”
Acknowledging the strong competition at the 103rd edition of the race, Landa expressed gratitude towards his teammates, recognizing their support and effort throughout the event, “We tried to fight for the overall and stage wins here, but it was difficult. This didn’t stop us from giving our best and I want to thank my teammates for their strong effort.”
Securing his seventh top-three finish in a World Tour stage race, Landa’s accomplishment sets a promising tone as he looks forward to his upcoming home race, Itzulia Basque Country, where he will be racing alongside Remco Evenepoel.
Reflecting on his achievement, Landa shared his excitement for future races, stating, “Second in the standings is my best ever result here, and to do it at the age of 34 gives me a lot of confidence for the Basque Country, which is the best race in the world. I can’t wait to race it with the Wolfpack in just a week from now and I hope to be able to help Remco get a good result there.”
