Mick van Dijke Takes the Initiative in Tough Tour de Pologne Stage
After a challenging finish to stage two, the riders of the Tour de Pologne faced another high-altitude stage in southwest Poland. Mick van Dijke proved to be an asset to his team as he made a move in the breakaway during the first climb of the day.
“We had discussed before that we wanted to be in the break with Tobias Foss, Koen Bouwman or myself. It wasn’t easy, but in the end, I was up front for the team,” Van Dijke shared.
Although the breakaway gained a four-minute advantage over the peloton, their attempt ultimately fell short just twenty kilometers from the finish. Despite this, Van Dijke viewed the day as a success, stating, “It was a bit of a gamble on our part. Still, it was a good day.”
For Van Dijke, this stage served as preparation for his upcoming goals, including the world championships. “The time between the Tour de Pologne and the world championships is short. It is nice to be able to test the legs again. They are starting to feel better, which gives me confidence. In the end, it was an excellent long training session today.”
Sam Oomen also had a solid performance in the demanding final, climbing to nineteenth place in the general classification. The next stage of the Tour de Pologne will feature a sprint finish.
