McLay sprints to fifth place in final stage of 4 Jours de Dunkerque
On the closing day of the French stage race, the sprinters had one last opportunity. In the finishing town of Dunkirk, the riders completed several local laps on a flat course. The early breakaway stood no chance, and the peloton prepared for a mass sprint in the streets of the coastal city.
McLay joined the battle for the stage win. The 33-year-old Brit ultimately had to settle for fifth, with Jake Stewart taking the victory. Hagenes had a trouble-free stage and concluded the race with a strong fifth place in the overall standings.
“Al bij al kunnen we terugblikken op een mooie week”
Frans Maassen
Sports director Frans Maassen reflects on the past week with mixed feelings. “Once again, the guys gave everything they had today. It’s still incredibly unfortunate that we lost Axel Zingle yesterday due to a crash. With him, we had a real shot at standing on the final podium as overall winner. Despite the disappointment, the team showed great fighting spirit. The goal today was to sprint with Dan, and he finished a commendable fifth. All in all, we can look back on a solid week.”
