Maryland Cycling Classic Announces Preliminary Riders for Second Edition, Including Tour de France Notables
Some of the biggest stars from this year’s Tour de France and recent World Championships were announced today in the preliminary rosters for the second edition of the Maryland Cycling Classic, presented by UnitedHealthcare. The race will feature a strong field of 112 of the world’s top cyclists representing 16 elite teams.
Notable riders in the lineup include Simon Yates, the fourth-place finisher in this year’s Tour de France and former Vuelta a España winner, along with stage winners Michael Woods and Victor Lafay. KOM Champion Giulio Ciccone and top American Neilson Powless will also be part of the race.
Neilson Powless, the third-place finisher in last year’s race, expressed his excitement about returning for another year: “Last year, the race was really exciting. It seemed to open up from the get-go, and we tried to make it pretty hard as a team even after the front split got away. Being able to race around downtown in a major city like Baltimore was fun. So, I’m really looking forward to being back to compete in America’s biggest race again.”
Other notable riders to watch for include Australia’s Simon Clarke, Denmark’s Mattias Skjelmose, Canada’s Hugo Houle, and former U.S. National Time Trial champion Lawson Craddock.
“This is going to be one of the most exciting fields to watch on American soil since 2019,” said Medalist Sports President Chris Aronhalt, the race’s event manager. “The strong mix of talented teams will surely provide a dynamic race from the rolling hills to the city center of Baltimore.”
The Maryland Cycling Classic, presented by UnitedHealthcare, is a 121.9-mile (196km) race from Sparks, Md., to Baltimore’s famous Inner Harbor. It is America’s top one-day international pro cycling race sanctioned by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) and USA Cycling. The race will take place on September 3rd.
The event is owned and operated by Sport and Entertainment Corporation of Maryland and is managed and marketed by industry leaders Medalist Sports and KOM Sports Marketing.
