Martinez wins final stage of Paris-Nice

# Lenny Martinez Triumphs in Dramatic Final Stage of Paris-Nice

Lenny Martinez clinched victory in the decisive Stage 8 of Paris-Nice, conquering the 129.2 km race around the Côte d’Azur on March 15, 2026. After a relatively calm start, the race intensified on the climbs surrounding Nice, setting the stage for an electrifying finish.

With approximately 20 kilometers to go, Jonas Vingegaard launched a formidable attack on the Côte du Linguador (3.3 km at 8.2%), and Martinez was the only competitor able to follow him. The move was strategically supported by teammate Damiano Caruso, who expertly positioned Martinez ahead of the ascent.

Both riders quickly distanced themselves from the chasing pack, collaborating effectively over the final kilometers. As they approached the finish line, a sprint ensued between the two leaders. Martinez showcased his speed and crossed the line first, marking a triumphant win close to his hometown of Cannes. Vingegaard secured the second position, while Harold Tejada rounded off the podium in third place.

Reflecting on his victory, Martinez expressed his emotions: “This victory means a lot to me. Winning here in Nice, close to where I grew up, makes it even more special. It was a hard week of racing and there were some complicated stages, but I’m really happy with everything I’ve done. Today I felt good that I was able to follow Jonas when he attacked. To win against a rider like him shows how much I’ve improved since last year, both physically and mentally. It’s also very special because my parents were here at the finish, so to win in front of them makes this moment even more meaningful.”

Martinez’s feat was underscored by the challenges faced by his team, as noted by Sports Director Roman Kreuziger. “We were already down to four riders from yesterday because Nikias got ill overnight, so it wasn’t an easy situation for the team. But Lenny was very confident before the stage and the guys did a really good job. Damiano came back to the group at the right moment and positioned Lenny perfectly behind Jonas before the steep climb. After that, Lenny handled the situation very well. He stayed calm even with the chasers coming from behind and finished it off in the sprint. Beating Jonas on the last day of Paris–Nice is something really special. It’s a big boost for the whole team and something we can be very proud of.”

This victory not only highlights Martinez’s capabilities but serves as a significant morale boost for Team Bahrain Victorious, making the conclusion of the 84th edition of Paris-Nice a memorable one.
