MARTINEZ TAKES SECOND IN QUERALT AND MOVES UP TO SECOND OVERALL

# Lenny Martinez Secures Second Place in Queralt, Climbing to Overall Second in Volta a Catalunya

Lenny Martinez showcased his resilience on Stage 6 of the Volta a Catalunya, finishing in a commendable second place at the summit of Queralt. This performance follows his impressive third place from the previous day, with Jonas Vingegaard (Team Visma) taking the stage victory and Florian Lipowitz (Red Bull Bora) rounding out the podium in third.

The 159 km route stretching from Berga to Queralt featured a challenging circuit leading up to the final climb, setting the stage for a dramatic finale. In the last few kilometres, Vingegaard launched an attack on the ascent to Queralt, but Martinez was able to keep pace with the leading group — at least until misfortune struck. With just over two kilometres remaining, he suffered a front-wheel puncture. Remarkably, he managed to limit the damage despite this setback, securing second place in the stage.

“The race was really hard from the start. Afonso did a super good job and we managed to open a gap, which was nice,” Martinez stated. “On the last climb I had a flat tyre in the final two kilometres, so it was really difficult to follow. I don’t really know how I managed to hold on and finish like that. I’m happy with the result.”

As a result of his strong finish in Queralt, Martinez has ascended to second place in the overall general classification, all while retaining the best young rider jersey as the event approaches its final stage in Barcelona. The competition remains fierce, but Martinez’s tenacity and skill highlight his potential in this prestigious race.

With the final stage looming, fans and analysts alike eagerly anticipate how the climactic showdown in Barcelona will unfold, especially with players like Martinez continuously rising to the challenge.
