In the 27th edition of the prestigious Italian one-day race, Trofeo Alfredo Binda, riders confronted a challenging course featuring ten climbs on a local circuit. Team Visma | Lease a Bike showcased strong teamwork, maintaining a presence in the front group throughout the race. Notably, Maud Oudeman made her return after fracturing her collarbone in Australia, attempting a daring solo breakaway in the final stretch but unable to carve out a significant lead.
As the race progressed into its final lap, six riders broke away, and three of them extended their lead to fifty seconds. Despite Sarah Van Dam’s efforts in the chasing group, she was unable to close the gap. In a thrilling sprint finish, Karlijn Swinkels outpaced Anna van der Breggen to claim victory, while Marianne Vos secured a commendable sixth place.
Reflecting on her comeback, Oudeman stated, “It was a tough race, but above all I’m really happy to be back.” She emphasized the challenges she faced initially in supporting her teammates but later found her rhythm: “I’ve come away from it feeling good.”
Teammate Sarah Van Dam shared her insights on the team’s performance, noting the early success of their start and the strength of their collective ride. She expressed disappointment about Katharina’s crash that hampered their efforts and mentioned her own attempt to attack in the final lap that unfortunately did not succeed.
