Marco Frigo’s Valiant Effort Falls Short in Giro d’Italia Stage 15

Israel – Premier Tech’s young rider, Marco Frigo, came close to securing a remarkable victory in stage 15 of the Giro d’Italia but was ultimately overtaken in the final meters, settling for third place.

Frigo expressed his mixed emotions after the race, saying, “I’m feeling both disappointed and happy at the same time right now. I could see the victory right there in front of me and that’s already really something. We will try again soon!”

Frigo and teammate Sebastian Berwick were part of a breakaway group. Frigo attacked on the final climb, initially joined by Ben Healy and Brandon McNulty. However, Healy went solo on the second part of the climb, leaving Frigo and McNulty to chase.

Despite facing a significant time gap, Frigo managed to catch up to the leaders on the final 10 kilometers. With three kilometers to go, Healy and McNulty surged ahead once more, leaving Frigo to chase alone.

Frigo made a valiant effort and briefly looked set to win, but in the end, McNulty and Healy overtook him in the final meters.

Frigo remained optimistic, stating, “We came so close again today and for sure we will try again next week. We are not done in this race!”

This podium finish marks the fifth time Israel – Premier Tech has finished in the top three in this year’s Giro d’Italia. With a rest day on Monday, the team is determined to carry their momentum into the final week of racing.

Sports director Sam Bewley praised the team’s performance, saying, “The boys are doing incredibly well, and the morale is sky-high at the moment. We are going to take this momentum with us into the last week and keep trying to get that win.”
