1 – 2 at the Tour of Türkiye: Nico Denz wins 5th stage ahead of Matt Walls

Nico Denz Takes Home Victory Ahead of Matt Walls in 5th Stage of the Tour of Türkiye

German cyclist Nico Denz claimed a decisive win in the 5th stage of the Tour of Türkiye, leaving no chance for the sprinters in the technical finale. Denz, who already has two stage wins in the Giro d’Italia, celebrated his third success of the season, with Matt Walls securing second place. The duo took the lead early on and navigated the winding final kilometers with precision.

Denz made the race-deciding move 1500 meters ahead of the finish and led the peloton into the finale with Walls closely behind. The BORA – hansgrohe teammates held their positions on the challenging course, leaving no room for other riders to pass in the 90-degree bends of Bodrum. Denz maintained his lead until the finish line, while Walls achieved his best result of the season so far.

Reflecting on their strategy, Denz stated, “Our idea was to get safely into the final. We wanted to be the first to take the bend that came 1km before the finish. We knew it was so technical that no one could pass.” The BORA – hansgrohe Sports Director at the Tour of Türkiye, Bernie Eisel, expressed his pride in the team, emphasizing their unity and hard work. Eisel praised Denz for his exceptional effort, including the effort to bring teammate Ben back after a mechanical issue near the finish.

The impressive performance by Denz and Walls showcases the strength and success of the BORA – hansgrohe team in this season. Denz’s victory marks a significant milestone for him, and Walls’ second-place finish proves his talents as a regular sprinter. The team can celebrate their one-two placement and look forward to further accomplishments in the race.
