Lukas Pöstlberger ends 2023 season with victory at the Sun Hung Kai Properties Hong Kong Cyclothon
Lukas Pöstlberger of Team Jayco AlUla has concluded the 2023 season on a high note with a solo victory at the Sun Hung Kai Properties Hong Kong Cyclothon. Pöstlberger’s teammate, Zdeněk Štybar, also had a strong performance, finishing in third place on the podium. The downtown city centre circuit provided for a thrilling race, with Pöstlberger attacking in the closing laps and securing a one minute and 18 seconds margin over his competitors.
“I’m really happy to take the win and end the season for the team this way. It was a hard race from the start, we had a good plan, we wanted to make it hard and try to set the speed from the beginning,” Pöstlberger said. “In the race we said we have to make it even harder and luckily the first attempt already made the breakaway.”
The team’s sport director, Pieter Weening, expressed his satisfaction with the team’s strategy. “We tried to make the race hard from the start because we knew we didn’t have the fastest guy here, so we had to do it a little bit different,” he explained. “From the start, we took control, made it hard, and at one moment we decided already to put the hammer down and we had four of our best guys in the lead group.”
The victory in Hong Kong serves as a welcomed way to finish the season for Team Jayco AlUla. “It is a real nice way to finish the season off, and it is a welcomed win for Pöstlberger,” Weening added. “Everybody is very happy to finish this way.”
