Fabian Lienhard Finishes in the Top-10 in Follonica Sprint at Tirreno-Adriatico
Fabian Lienhard showcased his sprinting prowess as he secured a commendable tenth place finish in the Follonica stage of Tirreno-Adriatico. The stage witnessed a dominant performance by Jasper Philipsen who clinched the victory, while Lienhard’s solid performance marked a notable highlight in the race.
The race unfolded with a traditional scenario as a small breakaway group consisting of Lorenzo Quartucci, Jan Stöckli, Davide Bais, and Filippo Magli took an early lead. Despite their efforts, the peloton swiftly closed in on the breakaway, setting the stage for a sprint finish. Lienhard’s teammates worked diligently to position him well for the sprint, demonstrating a strategic approach to maximize his chances.
Reflecting on the team’s performance, Yvon Caër commented, “The guys did give it a try… We wanted… Fabian in good conditions for the sprint.” Caër emphasized the importance of honing the team’s set-up for future races, showcasing a forward-looking approach despite the absence of a top sprinter in their lineup.
Despite facing challenges in the final kilometers including road obstacles, Lienhard displayed determination and sprinted to a commendable eleventh place finish, which was later upgraded to tenth following a disqualification. With eyes set on the future, the team’s focus remains on continual improvement and preparation for upcoming competitions, including the Giro.
Looking ahead to the next stage towards Gualdo Tadino, Caër highlighted the hilly terrain that could favor a breakaway. He pondered whether dominant teams like UAE Team Emirates and Visma-Lease a Bike would allow such a scenario to unfold, underscoring the unpredictable nature of the race. As the riders gear up for the challenges of the upcoming stage, the team’s strategic approach and determination will continue to shape their performance in the Tirreno-Adriatico competition.
