Laporte concludes difficult season with victory in Tour of Holland
# Christophe Laporte Celebrates Victory at Tour of Holland, Concludes Challenging Season
In a remarkable finish to a tumultuous season, Christophe Laporte emerged victorious at the Tour of Holland, stating, “I am extremely happy. It’s great to end the season with a victory. If you had told me this a few months ago, I wouldn’t have believed it.” After battling a persistent virus that sidelined him for much of the year, Laporte expressed relief and joy at concluding his season on a positive note.
The final stage of the race unfolded in Arnhem, where cyclists faced eleven local laps of approximately thirteen kilometers. Midway through the stage, the peloton split into two groups, but Laporte remained sharp and found himself in the leading portion of the pack. As the race progressed and the peloton reformed, a quartet of riders managed to break away in the final stretch.
“It was a difficult day to control, but the team did a great job,” Laporte noted, acknowledging his team’s efforts. Danny van Poppel took the stage win, while Laporte, despite finishing in 37th place for the stage, secured the overall victory.
Sports director Arthur van Dongen reflected on the team’s performance, saying, “An overall victory in a stage race is always nice, especially for Christophe, who has had a difficult time. The men worked very hard to secure the victory. I am proud of that.” Though they aimed for a stage win as well, Van Dongen admitted, “we just didn’t quite make it. Nevertheless, I can look back on a good week.”
Looking ahead, Van Dongen is optimistic about the future of the Tour of Holland, noting, “As a Dutchman, it’s great to race in my own country. I think it can grow into a great event on the calendar, as there is a lot of demand for it.” He concluded, “It feels really good to end it this way.”
