Lotto Soudal, the Belgian World Tour team, has made some changes to its management, aiming to enhance the Performance Department. This department has been a focus of substantial investment in recent years and has already shown successful results. Starting from 2021, Maxime Monfort will take on the role of Performance Manager, succeeding Kevin De Weert who has chosen not to extend his contract.
General Manager John Lelangue emphasizes the team’s dedication to performance and innovation, stating, “In 2019, Lotto Soudal proved to be a world leader in the field of material innovation and training. Our ambition keeps growing.” He highlights the success of Victor Campenaerts’ world hour record and acknowledges the crucial role played by the Performance Department. Lelangue adds, “Our team management is a blend of experience and youth, and the Performance Manager acts as the ideal connection between them. The balance of last season’s results speaks for itself, with 23 UCI victories, including 4 Tour stages. We will continue to prioritize performance, and Maxime Monfort is the perfect successor to build on our solid foundation.“
Maxime Monfort, who has been a team director at Lotto Soudal since the start of this season, brings a wealth of experience to his new role. Having spent 16 years as a professional cyclist, he knows the team inside and out. Monfort has also gained performance expertise from his time with other teams such as HTC-Columbia and Leopard-Trek. He will work closely with the medical staff led by Jens De Decker and collaborate with Energy Lab, focusing on nutrition and mental coaching.
Lelangue concludes by expressing his optimism for the future, stating, “We have high international ambitions, and our riders are dedicated to each other’s success. The future looks very promising.“
