Lotto Soudal Aims for Stage Victories in 77th Vuelta a España

This weekend, the 77th Vuelta a España will kick off in the Netherlands with a team time trial. Lotto Soudal, a Belgian WorldTeam, has set its sights on stage victories with a well-rounded team of offensive riders. Thomas De Gendt and Maxim Van Gils share their thoughts on the upcoming race.

Thomas De Gendt, an experienced rider who has already won a stage in this year’s Giro, is looking forward to his 23rd Grand Tour. He expressed his excitement and motivation for stage wins, stating, “The atmosphere is good and everyone is motivated to battle for stage wins.”

De Gendt has had success in Spain before, winning a stage in 2017 and earning the King of the Mountains classification in 2018. He is eager to create new memories in this year’s Vuelta, saying, “It’s never getting easier but when – like in the Giro – everything falls into place, it’s definitely possible.”

Maxim Van Gils, a 22-year-old rider who participated in his first Vuelta last year, is also excited for the upcoming race. With the guidance of De Gendt, he hopes to learn and improve his skills in breakaways. Van Gils is well-prepared for the Vuelta, having completed several altitude training camps, and will focus on stages suited for breakaways and climbing.

The Lotto Soudal team is optimistic about its chances in the Vuelta a España and is determined to compete for stage victories throughout the race.
