Lachlan Morton Aims for Victory at Leadville 100

On Saturday, Australian cyclist Lachlan Morton will participate in the Leadville 100 race in Colorado. With two podium finishes in the past, Leadville is a favorite event for Morton. This year, he aims to do better than ever, despite the strong field of competitors. Morton stated, “I am more prepared than I have been in the past.”

To prepare for the race, Morton spent the past two weeks in Leadville scouting the course and adjusting to the high altitude. He has chosen to ride the Cannondale Scalpel hardtail this year, believing it will benefit him, especially on the steep climb near the end of the course. Morton also plans to use durable Vittoria Mezcal tires and a large chainring to push himself to the front.

While Morton has taken on meaningful adventures and charity efforts in recent years, he still considers himself a bike racer at heart. He enjoys the feeling of being at the front of a race and the intense focus it requires. He stated, “Now, I compete because I want to, and I have found a renewed energy in the process of getting ready for a goal.”

Leadville is known for its challenging course and tough competition. Morton acknowledges the difficulty of the race but is driven to achieve victory. He said, “To win Leadville would be amazing… It would take a special day, but I wouldn’t have invested so much time and energy into it if I didn’t think that special day might come along.”

As Saturday approaches, Lachlan Morton is ready to give it his all in the Leadville 100 race, hoping for that special day that could bring him victory in one of the biggest races in the USA.
