Kévin Vauquelin’s Love Affair with the Strade Bianche: A Monument in the Making
In a recent interview, French cyclist Kévin Vauquelin expressed his deep admiration for the Strade Bianche race, labeling it as his favorite on the cycling calendar. Vauquelin praised the race’s unique challenges, stating, “The Strade Bianche is my favorite race on the calendar, it’s never monotonous, there are twists and turns at every moment… And it’s surely a Monument in the making.”
Vauquelin also highlighted the evolving nature of the race, noting the longer course for this year’s edition. He remarked, “On this day, you know you’re not going to experience a race like any other. The fact that this year’s course is longer may mean that we’ll be able to ‘relax’ a bit.” Despite the potential for a more strategic approach due to the extended distance, Vauquelin recognized the race’s tradition of aggressive racing tactics, stating, “There may be a little more management than usual, as it’s usually ‘all-out’ from start to finish.”
With a nod to the unpredictable nature of the Strade Bianche, Vauquelin highlighted the trend of early attacks in recent years, emphasizing that “Nothing is written in stone.” He concluded by acknowledging the physical demands of the race, affirming that it remains “one of the most physically demanding races.”
