Junior Racers to Compete at 2024 USA Cycling Gran Fondo National Championships on Exciting Routes
The upcoming 2024 USA Cycling Gran Fondo National Championships will feature a thrilling course for junior racers to showcase their skills. The event, scheduled for September 15, 2024, will take place at Gran Fondo Maryland, with different routes designated for various age groups.
According to the announcement, “Junior 14-16 Male and Female racers will compete for 2024 USA Cycling Gran Fondo National Championships on the 61-mile Medio Route of Gran Fondo Maryland on September 15, 2024. Junior 17-18 Male and Female racers and all other National Championships age groups will compete on the Gran Route.”
Junior and U23 riders can participate in the event at a reduced entry fee of just $23, thanks to the support from Shimano. To be eligible to compete at the 2024 Gran Fondo National Championships, riders must meet the qualification criteria through results and participation in SUAREZ Gran Fondo National Series events and Partner-Events.
Reuben Kline, the founder of the Gran Fondo National Series, highlighted the aim to provide an appropriate challenge for young competitors, stating, “We want riders in the 14-16 year age group to be appropriately challenged and have a great day on their bikes. With our timed-segment competition format, a 60-mile National Championship event will be an accessible challenge for younger competitors.”
The event, open to all riders, will see participants starting in waves with National Championships age groups ranging from 14 to 75+. Notably, National Champions in age groups 30+ will qualify for the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships.
