Jumbo-Visma Takes Double Podium in Opening Stage of Tour of Britain

Team Jumbo-Visma had a strong start in the Tour of Britain, securing a double podium finish in the opening stage. Lead-out rider Wout van Aert guided Olav Kooij to victory, while Van Aert himself claimed second place.

Kooij expressed his gratitude towards his team, saying, “This is a win for the whole team. We had to do everything we could to catch the early escapees at the end, but the guys did a great job. Then, the team guided Wout and me perfectly through the last corner, which put us in an ideal position for the sprint. I’m happy that I was able to finish it off.”

Van Aert, who is known as one of the best riders, was pleased with his lead-out and expressed his confidence for the rest of the Tour. He said, “I came here to take a stage win. To win it right away is great. We can look forward to the rest of the Tour with confidence.”

Kooij also praised Van Aert’s lead-out, stating, “Wout is one of the best riders in the world. The fact that he did the lead-out for me gave me confidence. You can almost be sure that someone like him will lead you perfectly, which he did. It’s a luxury to have Wout on the team. And to finish first and second is exceptional.”

Team Jumbo-Visma’s victory in the opening stage brings their total wins for the season to an impressive 53. The team can now approach the rest of the Tour with confidence and aims to continue their successful form.
