Julian Alaphilippe Displays Fighting Spirit in Montreal Race
The 31-year-old Frenchman was once again Soudal Quick-Step’s top finisher.
Julian Alaphilippe showcased his character and determination in the Montreal race, despite finishing outside the top ten. His fighting spirit bodes well for the upcoming races, starting with the Tour de Luxembourg.
The Canadian race proved to be tougher than Friday’s event, with challenging weather conditions and difficult terrain that thinned out the peloton early on. Alaphilippe faced an untimely mechanical issue, forcing him to exert extra energy to rejoin the bunch just as the pace picked up. Despite his incredible efforts, he lost contact with the lead group on the longest ascent of the race but fought relentlessly to make it back.
Another strong acceleration put Alaphilippe in difficulty once again, just as he was finding his position in the group. With ten kilometers to go and the penultimate climb approaching, he almost bridged the gap to those ahead. However, the uphill drag to the finish line prevented him from securing a top ten placement.
Reflecting on the race, Alaphilippe said, “My form isn’t fantastic yet, but it was really nice to see I can feature in the finale of a race this hard. This gives me confidence that a victory could come soon.”
Despite the result, Alaphilippe’s performance in Montreal demonstrates his resilience and potential for success in future races.
