Jorgenson limits damage in Tirreno-Adriatico opening time trial

# Jorgenson Maintains Momentum Despite Rivals in Tirreno-Adriatico Time Trial

In the scenic coastal town of Lido di Camaiore, the Tirreno-Adriatico kicked off with its annual time trial, capturing attention as Wout van Aert initiated the competition for Team Visma | Lease a Bike. The Belgian rider set a benchmark with a time of 13:18 before the spotlight shifted to the other top contenders.

Among them was Matteo Jorgenson, a key favorite, who showcased a commendable effort with a time of 12:52. His performance allowed him to keep the deficit against his leading rivals in check, although he ultimately finished behind the event’s strongest competitor, Filippo Ganna, who clinched first place with a remarkable time of 12:08.

Reflecting on his run, Jorgenson candidly stated, “I had hoped for a better time. Fortunately, my legs felt good. I know my form is solid right now, and I was able to keep the time lost to my competitors to a minimum.”

Team director Jesper Mørkøv praised Jorgenson’s performance, acknowledging the challenges ahead: “It’s a good start to the week. Matteo lost a little time to some of his rivals, and we need to make up for that over the coming days. But I’m confident that Matteo can do it.”

While Jorgenson pushed himself to the limit, Van Aert opted for a more strategic approach, balancing preparation for the week ahead. “I felt good. The time trial was a nice preparation for the rest of the week,” he shared. Looking forward, he expressed optimism for the upcoming stages, stating, “Tomorrow promises a great stage, and I hope to play a significant role in the challenging finale. There are also opportunities later in the week. Hopefully, it will be a great week.”
