Jasper Philipsen Claims Title of King of Victories 2023 in Professional Road Cycling
Belgium’s Jasper Philipsen has been crowned the King of Victories 2023 in professional road cycling, earning his third stage win in the 58th Presidential Cycling Tour of Türkiye in Marmaris. Philipsen beat his compatriot Timothy Dupont and Italy’s Giovanni Lonardi in a bunch gallop to secure the title.
In a post-race press conference, Philipsen expressed his love for Marmaris and his satisfaction with the win. He also discussed the challenges faced during the race, crediting his teammate Xandro Meurisse for helping him in the finale and positioning him well for the sprint.
The race saw early attacks from Jay Vine and Robigzon Oyola, but they were eventually brought back. Nico Denz then rode solo for a portion of the race before being reeled in by the peloton. The stage also featured climbs where Aldemar Reyes and Ben Zwiehoff secured KOM points.
Overall race leader Alexey Lutsenko praised the efforts of his teammate Cees Bol and expressed his contentment with finishing in the main group. Giovanni Lonardi, who finished second in the stage, expressed his satisfaction with the podium finish and his determination to perform well in future sprints.
