Jakob Fuglsang Set to Begin 2023 Season at UAE Tour
The highly anticipated UAE Tour, featuring top cyclists, is set to kick off on February 20th. Among the competitors is Jakob Fuglsang, the leader for IPT, who will be starting his season at the UAE Tour for the first time. Fuglsang is eager to build on his strong off-season preparation.
In an interview, Fuglsang expressed his excitement by saying, “This will be my first time taking on the UAE Tour and I’m really looking forward to starting out my 2023 season here. I have had a good winter at home and now I’m eager to get back to racing again.”
Fuglsang recognizes the significance of the team time-trial and the two mountain top finishes as the crucial stages for the general classification. With his specific training for team time trials, he is determined to make an impact. He stated, “In addition to the TTT, the two mountain top finishes are obviously the most crucial stages in this race, so I’m curious to see what I can do there.”
The team time-trial will be an essential part of the UAE Tour, and Sports Director Dror Pekatch is excited to put the training miles from the camp in Alicante to good use. He mentioned, “We’re always happy to go back to the UAE, and it’s an important race for us, being the first one back for a few of our guys. We’re going with a good team for both GC and stage wins, so it will be nice to see how we do. We had some special preparations for the TTT at our training camp in Alicante, both in terms of physical training and also testing our bikes with the best equipment we can. The team goes there in support of Jakob, and we’re focused and excited to produce a result.”
The UAE Tour will begin with a 151km flat stage, favoring the sprinters. The team from Israel – Premier Tech participating in the UAE Tour includes riders Itamar Einhorn, Jakob Fuglsang, Derek Gee, Ben Hermans, Matthew Riccitello, Mads Würtz Schmidt, and Taj Jones. The team will be led by Sports Directors Dror Pekatch and Sam Bewley.
