Jakob Fuglsang aims for podium finish at Tour de Suisse

Following his recent victory at the Mercan’Tour Classic, Jakob Fuglsang is preparing to compete in the Tour de Suisse with the goal of securing a podium position in the General Classification. Fuglsang has achieved podium finishes at the Swiss race three times in his career and is confident that he can add another one to his accomplishments.

Expressing his excitement for the upcoming race, Fuglsang says, “It’s definitely one of my favorite races on the calendar and one where I can race well. It was great to be back on the podium for the third time last year and now, after my win at Mercan’Tour Classic, I am taking a lot of confidence into the race.”

Fuglsang views the Tour de Suisse as a crucial test ahead of the Tour de France and believes that his solid team will provide him with the necessary support. He not only aims for a stage win but also hopes to stand on the GC podium again, showcasing his potential as a top contender.

The IPT Sports Director, Nicki Sørensen, emphasizes that the team’s primary objective is to support Fuglsang in his pursuit of the General Classification. Sørensen is optimistic about Fuglsang’s form and believes that if he performs like he did in the Mercan’Tour Classic, they can achieve a strong result. Sørensen highlights stages 5, 6, and 7 as critical for the GC success and acknowledges the significance of the 25-kilometer time trial in determining the final outcome.

Besides Fuglsang, the team also has Patrick Bevin, the stage winner of Tour de Romandie, who adds to their arsenal of talented riders. Sørensen praises Bevin’s outstanding season and suggests that he could be a strong contender on the punchy stages due to his versatility and fast finish. With the support of experienced riders like Daryl Impey, Hugo Houle, Krists Neilands, Reto Hollenstein, and Sebastian Berwick, the team is well-prepared to assist both Fuglsang and Bevin.

The Tour de Suisse will take place from June 12 to June 19 and the IPT team roster includes Sebastian Berwick, Patrick Bevin, Jakob Fuglsang, Reto Hollenstein, Hugo Houle, Daryl Impey, and Krists Neilands. The Sports Directors are Nicki Sørensen, Claudio Cozzi, and Zak Dempster.
