Israel – Premier Tech Showcases a Blend of Youth and Experience at the Tour du Rwanda
An energetic mix of young and experienced riders, including Chris Froome in his first race of the 2024 season, is set to represent Israel – Premier Tech at the eight-day Tour of Rwanda, commencing this Sunday.
The team’s commitment to developing cycling in the region is underscored by their return to the Field of Dreams cycling center in the district of Bugesera, a project that has been impactful to the local community.
This year’s race covers 718.9 kilometers across eight days, featuring the Tour’s first team time trial and an uphill individual test against the clock. The team is gearing up for the challenges ahead, with a strong line-up including Froome, Joe Blackmore, Guy Sagiv, Itamar Einhorn, and Moritz Kretschy.
Sports Director Ruben Plaza expressed, “This is a very important race for us because of the relationship the team has with the country and what we are doing to develop cycling in Rwanda with the Field of Dreams project.” He added, “It’s a special race, which is why we have a strong team here. Our first objective is to win the TTT in Kigali on stage one. We have options with Itamar on stage two, and after this we will be fighting for the GC with Joe and Chris.”
Looking forward to the new season and the Tour, Froome mentioned, “I love any opportunity to get back to Africa, it feels like home.” He also reflected on the Field of Dreams, “Seeing the Field of Dreams was the highlight [of last year’s visit to Rwanda] for me.”
The team approaches the race with a strong sense of camaraderie, as Froome expressed, “I always enjoy racing and doing training camp with younger riders who are in that phase of figuring out how to get the best out of themselves. I don’t have all the answers but I can at least share my experiences and what has helped me to achieve what I have achieved.”
Riders and sports directors are geared up for what promises to be an eventful and significant Tour du Rwanda, demonstrating the team’s dedication to both racing and community development.
