Pello Bilbao Wins Stage 10 of Tour de France and Dedicates Victory to Teammate Gino Mäder
Pello Bilbao of Team Bahrain Victorious secured his first ever Tour de France stage win in an emotional finish in Issoire. The Spanish cyclist dedicated his victory to his teammate Gino Mäder, who has been dealing with personal challenges.
Bilbao fought hard throughout the race, joining a breakaway group of 11 riders at the intermediate sprint in Le Mont-Dore. The breakaway managed to build a gap of around 3:30 from the peloton, giving them a promising advantage.
With 55km to go, Bilbao and four other riders worked together tirelessly to chase down Neilands, who had upped the pace and gained a small lead from the breakaway. They successfully caught him with just 3km to go.
In the final stretch, Zimmermann launched an attack, but Bilbao managed to hold on and sprint to the finish line, claiming the stage victory. Overwhelmed with emotions, Bilbao dedicated his win to Mäder, expressing his gratitude and admiration for his teammate.
“It’s been an incredibly emotional build-up to this Tour de France with everything that has happened. I’m so happy I can dedicate this win to Gino,” Bilbao said, pointing to ‘#rideforGino’ on his jersey.
Reflecting on his performance, Bilbao acknowledged the challenges he faced and the importance of staying focused. He credited his teammates and support staff for their help throughout the race.
“We have fantastic support with our staff providing us with drinks and ice at key points in a day like today. A big thank you to my teammates and staff for helping me take this win and dedicate it to my dear friend Gino,” Bilbao expressed.
This victory marks a significant milestone for Bilbao and serves as a testament to the determination and resilience of Team Bahrain Victorious. The team continues to demonstrate their competitive strength in the Tour de France, showcasing their ability to overcome obstacles and support one another in pursuit of success.
