Sam Bennett Returns to Tour of Britain, 10 Years After First Career Win
Irish sprinter Sam Bennett is making his comeback to the Tour of Britain, a decade after his maiden victory in the race. Bennett considers this event to be a significant moment in his career as it opened the door to the professional peloton.
The small Welsh town of Caerphilly holds great importance for Bennett, as it was where he secured his first major victory. Reflecting on that moment, Bennett revealed, “Without this stage victory, I wouldn’t be here today. If I hadn’t taken the win in Caerphilly, I would have gone back to university in Ireland.”
Following his success in the Tour of Britain, Bennett was signed by the NetApp-Endura team, which paved the way for his remarkable journey in the sport. With over 60 professional victories, including ten stages in all three Grand Tours, Bennett’s career has been nothing short of remarkable.
Returning to the place of his breakthrough win exactly a decade later, Bennett is optimistic about his chances in this year’s race. With a strong team by his side, he believes there will be suitable opportunities for sprinters.
