Team dsm-firmenich PostNL Wins Tour of Denmark Opening TTT

Team dsm-firmenich PostNL raced to opening stage victory around the streets of Holstebro at the Tour of Denmark today, beating second place by the smallest of margins but doing enough to put home rider Tobias Lund Andresen in the leader’s jersey going into tomorrow’s second stage.
The relatively short 13.7 kilometre time trial was pan flat and one where a cohesive team effort was paramount to success. The guys rode a superb effort, gradually leaving Andresen with Johan Dorussen and Frank van den Broek by the finish.
With the victory, Andresen also now leads the point and young rider classifications, with Dorussen set to start tomorrow’s stage in a leader’s jersey in second place as a result.

After the stage, Tobias Lund Andresen said: “It was a really nice day today. We had a chance to do some laps before the race and to make a good plan. I think we executed this perfectly with the turns. We lost a couple of guys on the way but we also planned that if we only gave four left then we push on after half way. It’s really nice to get my home race started like this and nice to have the yellow jersey. Now we can look forward to the rest of the stages.”
Team dsm-firmenich PostNL coach Roy Curvers added: “We wanted to go for the win today because we all believed we could. We made a solid plan and executed in a good way. The guys were absolutely drilling it and left every bit of energy out on the road. It was also really nice to see that the small advantages were on our side today. A TTT win is always great because you have the whole team on the podium, but also because so many other members of the team not riding but working behind the riders also work closely on a TTT, so that puts everybody in Team dsm-firmenich PostNL colours at the heart of the win today.”
