Grenadiers Defend Position at Challenging La Vuelta Stage

The INEOS Grenadiers showcased exceptional teamwork in navigating a difficult and treacherous second stage at La Vuelta a Espana. Despite inclement weather and precarious road conditions, the team successfully held their ground during the 182-kilometer stage.

Due to the dangerous conditions, the race organizers made the decision to neutralize the general classification times with nine kilometers remaining. However, this did not deter the riders from fiercely competing for the stage win. Geraint Thomas and Thymen Arensman finished with the same time as their rivals in the general classification.

Geraint Thomas encountered a brief setback when he went down along with other riders on a slippery roundabout with 33 kilometers left in the race. Nevertheless, the Welshman quickly recovered and with the help of strong positioning from his teammates, they all finished the stage unscathed despite numerous crashes and punctures.

Once the team entered the neutralized section, they took a more cautious approach and crossed the finish line five minutes behind stage winner Andreas Kron of Lotto – DSTNY.

Unluckily, the team had to face the stage without Laurens De Plus, who sustained a non-displaced fracture of the right hip during Saturday’s team time trial.

The INEOS Grenadiers have demonstrated their resilience and formidable teamwork at La Vuelta, overcoming challenging conditions and setbacks. As the race continues, they are sure to remain a force to be reckoned with in their pursuit of victory.
