Santiago Buitrago Places Second on Stage 4 in Vuelta a Burgos
Santiago Buitrago of Bahrain – Victorious showcased his cycling prowess with an impressive performance in the breakaway during Stage 4 of the Vuelta a Burgos. Although narrowly missing out on victory to Lazkano of Movistar Team in a sprint to the finish atop Pradoluengo, Buitrago expressed his disappointment while acknowledging the strong effort made by the entire breakaway group.
Having suffered in the extreme heat conditions of Stage 3, Buitrago lost time and had to settle for a spot in the nine-rider breakaway. However, Buitrago’s determination and strength enabled him to stay at the front of the race.
The breakaway group was given a gap of nearly four minutes, but as they approached the final climb, the number of riders dwindled down to just two, making it evident that the winner would emerge from within the breakaway group. In the closing kilometers, Brambilla of Q36.5 made an attack, prompting a response from Buitrago and Lazkano, who managed to thwart the subsequent attempt by Bou of Euskaltel-Euskadi.
Unfortunately, Buitrago found himself in a challenging position on the last bend, just missing out on a victory. Nevertheless, he remains optimistic about his performance and the condition of his legs for the upcoming Vuelta a Burgos, stating, “After a hard day yesterday, I’m pleased with how I responded and the legs felt good which is important going into the Vuelta.”
