Giro dell’Emilia: Maxime Bouet Describes the Race as “Scary”

French cyclist Maxime Bouet has described the Giro dell’Emilia as a “scary” race, highlighting its reputation as one of the toughest events on the calendar. Bouet, who rides for the Arkéa-Samsic team, spoke about the race’s challenging nature and how it intimidates many riders.

Bouet compared the Giro dell’Emilia to the Tour of Lombardy, stating that it can seem even more difficult. He emphasized that the first part of the race is relatively calm, but the final circuit in Bologna, to be completed five times, is where the real challenge lies. With no respite and extremely steep sections, Bouet likened the effort required to that of the Flèche Wallonne.

Reflecting on the demanding nature of the race, Bouet explained, “But in Bologna, you climb that wall five times, without being able to recover.”
