French Cyclist Laporte Finishes Fourth in Famenne Ardenne Classic

French cyclist Christophe Laporte of Team Jumbo-Visma narrowly missed out on a podium position at the Famenne Ardenne Classic. Despite a strong performance and attempted escape, Laporte had to settle for fourth place as the sprinters’ teams prevented a breakaway. Sports director Arthur van Dongen praised the team’s efforts and the opportunity given to young riders.

“We rode attractively, as we wanted to. We wanted to make a difference by anticipating the many breakaways. We did that well,” said van Dongen. “While we did not win today, I am proud of how our riders carried out our plans.”

The race saw two young talents from the Jumbo-Visma Development Team shine. 19-year-old American Colby Simmons and 20-year-old Norwegian Per Strand Hagenes made a strong impression. “Colby was called up at the last minute and rode well today. Per also proved that he can compete with the best here,” van Dongen commented.

Despite not achieving victory, van Dongen expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance. “I am happy with our team’s performance today,” he concluded.
