Belgian cyclist Florian Vermeersch has signed a new two-year contract extension with Lotto Soudal. The 22-year-old rider, who turned pro in 2020, will continue sporting the Belgian WorldTour team jersey until at least the end of 2024. Vermeersch expressed his confidence and excitement about the team’s vision and the opportunity to develop within a professional environment. He also highlighted the close-knit nature of the team as an important factor in his decision to stay.
General Manager John Lelangue commented on Vermeersch’s importance to the team’s Classics squad and praised his commitment to the project. Lotto Soudal plans to invest further in the development of young talents like Vermeersch to build a winning team for the future.
Reflecting on his performance in the spring Classics, Vermeersch acknowledged the challenges he faced due to crashes and bad luck. However, he expressed optimism about the upcoming season and his focus on improving his time trial skills. Vermeersch believes his sprinting abilities will provide an additional advantage in the Classics.
