Florian Sénéchal shines with impressive third place finish at Famenne Ardenne Classic
The former French Champion Florian Sénéchal came close to his first victory of the season at the Famenne Ardenne Classic in Belgium on Sunday afternoon. Sénéchal’s team, Soudal Quick-Step, rode a great race and showed their intentions with more than 60 kilometers to go. Despite several attacks from Sénéchal’s teammates, it was Sénéchal himself who almost made it to the finish line with a small group, only 1500 meters away when they were overtaken. Sénéchal did a great sprint in the last kilometer and secured an impressive third place finish, less than a wheel away from Arnaud De Lie who took the victory.
In an interview after the race, Sénéchal said, “We discussed in our meeting this morning that we wanted to go on the offensive, as we came with such a strong team here, and that’s what we did, going on the attack with many of our guys. While my teammates did this, I made sure to keep as much energy as possible in case it came down to a bunch sprint, especially as I felt good today. It was a close one, and this podium place gives me even more confidence for my next race.”
