Matteo Milan claims a breakthrough WorldTour podium

# Matteo Milan Achieves Milestone with Podium Finish at UAE Tour

In a stunning display of talent and teamwork, Matteo Milan claimed his first WorldTour podium with the Groupama-FDJ United cycling team during a gripping stage at the UAE Tour. The young Italian rider, absent from the slight uphill finish on the tour’s opening day, took full advantage of an opportunity presented on Thursday by finishing a remarkable third in Fujairah, while his brother Jonathan celebrated the stage win. This podium finish is just the beginning for Milan, as he continues to establish himself among the elite in cycling.

After three rigorous days of racing, stage four was finally suited for the sprinters, despite a slightly undulating course. “We knew it could be a fast start, and there was always a chance a breakaway could go far,” explained Jussi Veikkanen, team directeur sportif. While the team made early attempts to chase breakaways, a group of five riders managed a substantial lead. Veikkanen’s team worked efficiently to keep the breakaway within a three-minute margin but faced an unexpectedly thrilling final stretch as the sprint teams intensified their efforts.

“This podium means a lot,” said Matteo Milan, reflecting on his achievement. He had been keen to test his mettle against some of the sport’s best. “It proves that I’m in good shape and that I can compete with the best. The team was incredible and I’m really proud of them. I told them we have the potential to fight with — and even beat — the other contenders.”

As the race drew closer to its climax, the Groupama-FDJ United team executed their strategy brilliantly. “The instruction was not to panic and to stay around Axel and Matteo,” Jussi mentioned. The team’s calm approach allowed them to better gauge the dynamics of the final kilometers. The lead-out trains kicked into gear just as the breakaway was caught. Positioned perfectly behind his brother Jonathan, Milan unleashed a powerful sprint to secure third place.

This podium marks a significant milestone not only for Matteo but also for the Groupama-FDJ United squad, which now has two top-three finishes at this year’s UAE Tour. Jussi noted, “It’s a very good day because there was real commitment around Matteo. It was his first WorldTour race, and it’s always great to see a young rider fighting for a stage win, especially after such strong teamwork.”

Looking ahead, the team is excited to maintain their momentum, as they aim for another sprint finish in the upcoming stages. With Matteo Milan’s promising performance, fans and teammates alike are left eager to see what’s next for this rising star in the world of cycling.
