Experience and Young Talent Lead Bahrain Victorious into CRO Race

# Bahrain Victorious Brings a Blend of Experience and Youth to the CRO Race

The 10th edition of the CRO Race is set to commence on Tuesday in Split, Croatia, and will culminate after six challenging stages in the capital city of Zagreb. Cyclists from 20 teams will traverse a staggering 925 kilometers and conquer 11,000 meters of elevation—an ultimate test of endurance and versatility.

While four stages are tailored to favor sprinters, weather conditions, particularly wind, could become a critical factor, notably on the second day of the race. The route, which meanders along the picturesque coast before heading inland, will see competitors cross the bridge to the island of Pag, where crosswinds are notorious.

Two stages, in particular, are poised to be pivotal for general classification contenders. Stage 4 features the demanding climb of Poklon on Učka mountain, uniquely positioned mid-stage this year, potentially allowing the peloton to reel in any climbers who may attempt an early attack. Shortly after, Stage 5 offers a final chance to alter the general classification, with a significant ascent of Plešivica just 15 kilometers from the finish.

Bahrain Victorious enters the CRO Race with a dynamic blend of youthful talent and seasoned riders, all under the guidance of captain Damiano Caruso. Sports Director Aart Vierhouten shared insights about the team’s strategy: “Edoardo Zambanini is expected to lead the team, as the two hardest stages suit his profile. But we’ll also watch Jakob Omrzel closely; he’s coming straight from the World Championships, and depending on his condition, he could share the leadership role.”

Caruso, still recuperating from a broken bone in his hand, is on the mend, though the team is careful to manage expectations. “We don’t want to put unnecessary pressure on him, though the signs are positive,” Vierhouten remarked.

Max van der Meulen also returns after a collarbone injury and appears ready to compete. For the sprint stages, Žak Eržen is prepared to take the lead, having previously excelled in a lead-out role for Phil Bauhaus. Supporting him will be Vlad Van Mechelen, who arrives in sharp form from the Belgian classics and possesses the versatility to assist in sprints while also serving as a wildcard when needed.

Local rider Fran Miholjević is likely to make a significant impact in this race, with the route passing through his hometown. “His local knowledge of the parcours will be a real advantage,” Vierhouten noted. “He’ll support both sprinters and climbers, giving us strength across all terrains.”

As the CRO Race unfolds, Bahrain Victorious will be relying on this blend of youth and experience to navigate the challenges ahead, setting the stage for an exhilarating competition.
