Exciting Finale at Track Nationals as Team Events Bring Championship Week to a Close

The 2023 USA Cycling Junior, Elite, and Para-Cycling Track National Championships came to an exhilarating conclusion on Sunday at the Velo Sports Center in Carson, California. The week-long event showcased the talent of hundreds of athletes from across the country, with fast and thrilling racing taking place.

The action began on Friday with impressive performances in various events. Annika Flanigan of Edge Cycling claimed the Women’s 500-meter Time Trial title, while Enzo Edmonds of Star Track secured the top spot in the Men’s 1,000-meter Time Trial. Para-cycling events also took place, with notable victories by Shawn Morelli, Katie Walker, Joseph Berenyi, John Terrell, Christoper Murphy, Hannah Chadwick, and Michael Stephens.

Friday also saw the Junior Scratch Races, Elite Omnium, and Sprint events, which provided intense competition. Reagen Pattishall of Edge Cycling emerged as the gold medalist in the Women’s 17-18 Scratch race, while Jonah Hover of Edge Cycling outperformed Carsten Baker of Velo Track Cycling to claim victory in the Men’s 17-18 Scratch race. Mckenna McKee of Team Novo-Nordisk and Jamie Alvord of Edge Cycling were crowned champions in the Elite Women’s and Men’s Sprints, respectively.

Jennifer Valente of Virginia’s Blue Ridge TWENTY24 dominated the Elite Women’s Omnium, winning all four races. In the Elite Men’s Omnium, Anders Johnson of Voler / Zions Bank emerged as the national champion.

Saturday introduced younger juniors into the competition, with omniums held for the 11-12, 13-14, and 15-16 age groups. Noteworthy performances included Pattishall’s win in the Women’s 17-18 Elimination race and Hover’s exceptional performance in the Men’s 17-18 Elimination race. Valente and Colby Lange claimed victory in the Elite Women’s and Men’s Points races, respectively. The Keirin events saw victories by Mandy Marquardt and Dalton Walters.

On Sunday, the final day of racing featured team events. Team Edge Cycling emerged victorious in the Junior Women’s Team Sprint, while team I Tell Ya What triumphed in the Junior Men’s Team Sprint. In the Junior Team Pursuits, Team Fruity Pedals and Team Thunder Thigh Titan claimed the national titles in the women’s and men’s categories, respectively.

The day also included the Men’s Para B sprint finals, where Michael Stephens and pilot Joe Christiansen secured the 2023 title. In the Elite events, Speedy Tank and Mac10 and LOOK Corima emerged as the champions in the Women’s and Men’s Team Sprints, respectively. The Elite Men’s and Women’s Team Pursuits concluded the day, with Happy Folks on a Coupla Spokes and David Domonoske, Anders Johnson, Brendan Rhim, and Viggo Moore claiming victory.

The successful completion of the Track Nationals sets the stage for the upcoming USA Cycling Masters Track National Championships in Rock Hill, South Carolina. The event will take place from August 8-13, 2023.
