Italy and France Celebrate Victory in the Mixed Relay at #EUROROAD23
Italy and France emerged as the champions in the Mixed Relay races at the Road European Championships held in the Province of Drenthe, Netherlands. The event also saw the awarding of the title for the Juniors category for the first time.
In the Juniors category, Italy dominated the competition with a strong performance by Andrea Bessega, Andrea Montagner, Luca Giami, Eleonora La Bella, Alice Toniolli, and Federica Venturelli. They finished the two laps of the course with a speed of over 48 kilometers an hour, securing a 26-second lead over Germany and a 35-second lead over France.
The Elite race was fiercely contested, with Italy’s Matteo Sobrero, Mattia Cattaneo, and Edoardo Affini initially leading the pack. However, France’s Audrey Cordon-Ragot, Cedrine Kerbaol, and Juliette Labous managed to gain a 20-second advantage over the Italians, ultimately claiming the continental title.
The French team of Benjamin Thomas, Bruno Armirail, and Remi Cavagna finished with a total time of 44 minutes and 23 seconds, achieving an average speed of 52.170 km/h. Italy secured the silver medal, falling just 5 seconds short, while Germany took the third spot, trailing by 23 seconds.
The Road European Championships will continue tomorrow, with the Men’s Under 23 and Women’s Under 23 Road races scheduled to take place. The Men’s race will cover a distance of 136.5 kilometers from Hoogeveen to the Col du Vam, starting at 9.30am. The Women’s race, on the other hand, will span 108 kilometers from Coevorden to the Col du Vam, starting at 2.30pm.
