Emotional Victory for Campenaerts, Hirschi in the Yellow Jersey at Škoda Tour de Luxembourg
Belgian cyclist Victor Campenaerts of Lotto Dstny claimed a powerful victory in the time trial on the fourth stage of the Škoda Tour de Luxembourg. Finishing 1 second ahead of Brandon McNulty of UAE Team Emirates, Campenaerts secured a 20-second lead over teammate Diego Ulissi.
While Campenaerts celebrated his triumph, it was a bittersweet day for UAE Team Emirates. However, their rider Marc Hirschi, who finished seventh on the stage, emerged as the overall leader, snatching the prestigious yellow jersey. Hirschi had previously held the yellow jersey at the Škoda Tour de Luxembourg two years ago but lost it during the time trial to João Almeida, ultimately finishing second overall.
Victor Campenaerts (Lotto Dstny): “I haven’t concentrated on the time trial for a while. In fact, I wanted to get a good result in the overall classification, but that wasn’t possible anymore after the third stage. The run-up to the Škoda Tour de Luxembourg was difficult for me and my family, as my uncle suddenly died shortly before the start. It was also very hard for my father, who told me that there was nothing better now than winning a stage in Luxembourg. So I’m happy to have won for my uncle.”
Marc Hirschi (UAE Team Emirates): “In this kind of race, anything is possible. I just wanted to go all out. But I was a bit surprised at the finish to have managed to take the yellow jersey. My team-mate Brandon McNulty is only two seconds behind me and we’re hoping that one of us will win the overall classification tomorrow. I even think that the last stage suits us very well.”
