Emils Liepins Sprints to 3rd Place at Volta Ciclista a Catalunya Stage 4: Teamwork and Strategy Pay Off
After two challenging days in the General Classification, Emils Liepins showcased his sprinting prowess at the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya Stage 4, securing a well-deserved spot on the podium. Representing Team dsm-firmenich PostNL, Liepins benefited from an impressive display of teamwork and strategic planning throughout the race.
Liepins commented on the race, stating, “As we expected, today was finally a day for the sprinters. Luckily, the climb of the day was not ridden so hard, and we came over it in a good way. In the final, the team did a really good job and brought me into a good position.”
In the final decisive kilometers, Liepins’ teammates worked tirelessly to position him strategically for the sprint. Liepins described his final moments in the race, noting, “I had a good wheel and started my sprint with 300 meters to go. I was a little bit boxed in but was able to find a way out again. I did a good sprint and got third, but I had good speed in the end.”
Team dsm-firmenich PostNL coach Phil West praised the team’s performance, stating, “The guys showed some really nice teamwork in the final, defended their side, and surfed with the GC teams. We came into the final kilometers with three guys and could put Emils in a spot where he could have a clean run in the sprint, and it’s nice to get a podium here.”
Looking ahead, West highlighted the team’s readiness for future opportunities, saying, “We are now looking for some more opportunities in the coming days.” With Liepins’ podium finish and the team’s cohesive strategy, Team dsm-firmenich PostNL showcases the impact of teamwork and strategic planning in competitive cycling events.
