ZOE BACKSTEDT DOMINATES MAJOR TAYLOR CROSS CUPS WITH DOUBLE VICTORY
Zoe Backstedt made a sensational start to the 2023/2024 cyclo-cross season with back-to-back wins at the Major Taylor Cross Cups in Indianapolis, USA. The talented young rider triumphed in both races over the weekend, setting the stage for a strong performance in the upcoming Cyclo-Cross World Cup series.
“I had great fun. The course was fast and a great chance to test out my new equipment. I’m happy to be back racing cross!” Backstedt exclaimed.
With her remarkable performance in Indianapolis, Backstedt now heads to Waterloo, Wisconsin to prepare for the first round of the World Cup. This season’s series consists of 14 rounds across 7 countries. Backstedt will be competing in the U23 women’s category, which shares the general classifications with the women’s elite, allowing her to pursue multiple titles throughout the season.
“My goals for the first weekend were to get a good feeling back on the CX bike and test my equipment, which I did,” she shared. “Overall, my goals this season are the U23 World Cup, European championships, and World Championships. I’d love to take an elite podium in a World Cup, too, but we will see what the season brings.”
Up next for Backstedt is the Trek Cyclo-Cross Cup, a category 2 race, on Friday, October 13th. This will be followed by the highly anticipated first round of the World Cup, #1 Waterloo, on Sunday, October 15th. The combined U23/Women’s race will kick off at 12:40 CDT local time, 19:40 CEST.
