Tobias Lund Andresen Shows Strength in Hectic Finale to Finish 5th at CRO Race
In a hectic finale at the CRO Race, Tobias Lund Andresen showcased his sprinting abilities to secure a fifth-place finish on the final day of racing. Despite a relatively straightforward stage, the race saw multiple attacks and a breakaway that was caught in the closing laps. Team dsm-firmenich fought hard, but ultimately Lund Andresen had to make his move from far behind in the final sprint.
The day started with a five-rider breakaway that managed to establish itself after 28 kilometers. Despite their efforts, the sprint teams never let the gap get too large and eventually caught the breakaway inside the final lap. Team dsm-firmenich worked together to position themselves well in the final kilometers, but a surge from behind pushed them back. Last lead-out Pavel Bittner tried to move Lund Andresen up, but the young Dane had to open up his sprint from far behind. He skillfully weaved his way past riders, including a crash, to secure a fifth-place finish.
Lund Andresen expressed his disappointment at not winning but praised his team’s efforts, saying, “Everyone did a massive effort and I’m really proud of how we worked today. Unfortunately, we lost it in the last kilometer and I had to come from far behind again. There were a lot of near crashes, which made it difficult to open my sprint and come around. I’m not satisfied with leaving without a win, but I’m also very proud of us as a team and how much we’ve been willing to give for each other here.”
Team dsm-firmenich coach Joey van Rhee acknowledged that they had the race under control but lacked the power in the final corners to secure a win. Despite the disappointment, he praised the team’s communication and motivation, stating, “It’s a real shame to not leave the race with a win as the guys have really gone for it each day, but this is cycling, and it only motivates us more for the next time; as I think we deserved more than this.”
Although not the ultimate victory they were hoping for, Lund Andresen’s strong performance and the team’s collective effort demonstrate their potential for future success.
