Debrief of the first Monument of the season
“Pogacar had announced that his team would energize the race, and his team did indeed climb the Cipressa very, very fast. A group of around fifty riders emerged at the front, so we weren’t represented. Arnaud Démare and Vincenzo Albanese were just behind, and they made the junction just before the Poggio. At the top of this last “capo”, Vincenzo didn’t fall behind the frontrunners, but belonged to the group just behind. He came in for 13th place, but was unfortunately a little hampered in the sprint and finished 24th. He had the legs to do better.
