Czech Rider Daniel Babor Wins Stage 4 of PETRONAS Le Tour de Langkawi 2023
Meru (26 Sept 2023) – Czech rider Daniel Babor of Caja Rural-Seguros RGA emerged victorious in Stage 4 of the PETRONAS Le Tour de Langkawi 2023 at Meru Raya today. Babor timed his sprint perfectly in the last 200 metres to secure a stage win.
“This win truly means a lot to me. It’s my first major win in Asia and my second stage win in top-level races this season,” said Babor.
With the win, George Jackson of Bolton Equities Black Spoke took over the PETRONAS Green Jersey as the overall race leader. Italian Enrico Zanoncello of Green Project-Bardiani CSF-Faizane is currently in second place.
The Tour, which started in Kerteh, Terengganu on Saturday, has seen four different winners from four different teams in the first four stages.
Babor’s victory was credited to his teammate Tomas Bartab’s excellent lead out. “I’m now more confident of taking on the best in the field and delivering good sprint results for the team after today’s win,” added Babor.
Second-placed Jackson also had a good lead out but lost out to Babor in the final sprint. “Babor was the fastest man today. I’m still happy with the results, and we have a few more shots at stage wins after this,” said Jackson.
The stage featured a breakaway group of nine riders, which was later reduced to only three. They were eventually caught by the peloton with 6km to go.
Tomorrow’s stage to the summit of Genting, known for its challenging climb, is expected to determine the overall leader of the race.
