Courageous Attempt by Marco Frigo in Tour de la Provence: “I Was Feeling Really Good Today”
In an astonishing display of solo riding, Marco Frigo launched a remarkable attack during stage 2 of Tour de la Provence, only to have his valiant effort foiled in the last 500 meters. Despite this, Riley Sheehan secured a notable fourth place in the general classification. Reflecting on his performance, Frigo remarked, “I was feeling really good today and it’s a pity I was caught so close to the finish, but that’s cycling. I’m really happy with my performance out there”.
Determined to make an impact on the demanding and undulating Saturday stage, Frigo was resolute in his intent to break away early on. Teaming up with four other riders, the group established a lead of two and a half minutes on the peloton. Sensing the need to go solo for a chance at victory, Frigo made his move with 40 kilometers to go, pushing the limits on both the climb and the descent. While expressing his disappointment at the outcome, Frigo affirmed, “I took some risks but I think I did my best. The guys in the team car behind me were cheering for me and giving me a lot of motivation so I believed I could do it.”
Meanwhile, Sheehan demonstrated a strong performance, finishing sixth on the stage, just shy of the podium. As Mads Pedersen claimed the victory, Frigo secured 11th place, propelling him to 10th overall and the lead in the KOM classification. The Tour de la Provence is set to conclude with a flat stage carrying the potential challenge of strong crosswinds, presenting the riders with a final test of skill and determination.
