Article Title: Corbin Strong Secures Third Place at Surf Coast Classic After Recovering from Illness
After retiring from the Tour Down Under due to illness, Corbin Strong has made a triumphant return to the cycling circuit, clinching third place at the Surf Coast Classic. The race, known for its point-to-point parcours from Lorne to Torquay, tested the sprinters’ mettle, with the uphill start setting the stage for an intense battle. Despite the challenges, Strong’s team, IPT, delivered a stellar performance, assisting him in the chase and ultimately setting him up for a strong finish.
In Strong’s own words, “The boys nailed the run in… It’s not the best race suited to me with a pure bunch sprint but we knew that if we could nail the run in, I would be in with a chance.” Sports Director Daryl Impey commended the team’s strategic execution, stating, “We knew the final was going to be decided by that final roundabout and we committed everyone to putting Corbin in the best position. We executed exactly how we planned it.”
As the focus shifts to the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race on Sunday, Strong remains optimistic, highlighting the team’s readiness and strong lineup. With Sunday’s race being the primary target, Strong expressed, “It is a really nice parcours for us. We have a super strong team here… everyone’s in good shape and I think we have a number of cards to play on Sunday.”
Corbin Strong’s impressive comeback at the Surf Coast Classic sets the stage for an exciting showdown at the upcoming race, as he and his team target a strong finish to round off their Australian season.
