Christophe Laporte Plans to Showcase New European Champion’s Jersey at End of Season
After securing victory at the European Championships last week, French cyclist Christophe Laporte is eager to showcase his new champion’s jersey at the end of the season. Laporte, who won the race ahead of his Team Jumbo-Visma teammates Wout van Aert and Olav Kooij, describes the celebrations upon returning to France as “very special”.
“For me, it was the first time I had won a champion’s jersey,” Laporte explains. “I have never ridden in a jersey other than my team’s. I’m looking forward to riding in the champion’s jersey. I don’t want to know what else the team has prepared regarding bikes or other equipment. I like to be surprised the day before the race.”
Laporte is set to make his debut at the Famenne Ardenne Classic in Belgium and is motivated to make an impact. He sees the race as a challenging one and hopes to replicate his success at the Binche-Chimay-Binche race from last season. With two more races on his schedule, the Münsterland Giro and Paris-Tours, Laporte is excited to continue showcasing his new jersey.
“The Tour of Munster will probably end in a bunch sprint. Paris-Tours is a race that suits me, and I can show myself in my own country again. After that, it’s probably time to truly celebrate the European title,” Laporte concludes.
