Brady Gilmore doubles up in Volta a Portugal

# Brady Gilmore Secures Second Victory in Volta a Portugal

Brady Gilmore has made headlines once again, clinching his second stage win of the prestigious Volta a Portugal. The 24-year-old Australian cyclist showcased remarkable prowess during stage 6 in Guarda, delivering an electrifying uphill sprint that secured him the top spot.

“I felt good on the last climb. I wasn’t really suffering,” Gilmore commented after the race. “When I launched my sprint with 250 to go, I almost didn’t need to go max, which felt a little strange, to be honest, but I’ll take it.”

This victory marks an impressive eighth win for Gilmore this season and his second in this race, following his triumph in stage 5 just days earlier.

Teammate Daniel Lima played a pivotal role in this success by engaging early in the stage and joining the day’s breakaway. His bold move positioned Gilmore perfectly as he attacked on the final climb, only to be caught by the reduced peloton slightly over a kilometer before the finish.

“The plan was to put Daniel in the break, so it was a perfect situation for us with him up the road,” explained IPT Academy sports director Ruben Plaza. “Our second card to play was Brady, in case it came back for a sprint, and in the end, it worked out perfectly. When I saw him smiling on the climb, I knew he would win this one. Once again, it was another perfect day for us here in Portugal!”

Reflecting on the team’s performance, Gilmore noted, “We’ve got a wicked week of racing here. Two podiums and three stage wins, and we’re only six stages in. We’re really showing how good this team is here.”

The IPT Academy riders have now claimed victory in three out of the six road stages of the race. Looking ahead, Zac Marriage leads the team in the general classification, currently positioned in 12th place as they prepare for the challenging mountain stage to Covilhã.
